For biology we did a project final on adaptive radiation which is the evolution from a single common ancestor of an animal or a plant. I did my project on the Convict Cichlid fish where I had to put myself in the place of the fish and imagine living its lifestyle. I had to make my project on a newspaper platform and Mrs. Wilson provided the class with a bunch of options. I ended up using an online software called “Flipgrid” and it worked out perfectly with my project and I was able to project all of my thoughts and work on my digital newspaper.

She also added multiple mini deadlines that were associated with this project to make sure that we were using our time effectively and properly. The first deadline was the first three paragraphs that we had to write in 1st person on our animal that we chose which had to be an example of adaptive radiation. As I mentioned, we had to write in first person using “I”, “we”, “our”, and “us”.

We had to use these to describe our life along with things like what we ate, where my habitat was located and how it changed over the years, and lastly I had to talk about how many of my species were left and would benefit my kind to survive and flourish. I also had to write the last three paragraphs about my ancestry to show how I adapted from my ancestors. We also had to incorporate vocabulary words from Ms. Herrin’s notes on adaptive radiation such as “founder effect” and what type of selection it was and other vocabulary words. We also had to create a phylogenetic tree on our species, explaining how it was able to survive and adapt. After we completed this we had to present our project which was very fun to make, in my opinion.
